HISTORY OF KAGIO JAMIA MOSQUE AND ZEENAT ACADEMY

The history of the mosque goes back to 1976 when the local county council gave land to the Muslim community. In 1985, an official letter confirmed that the land was meant for building a mosque and a school. This gave the community a permanent place to pray and also a place to educate their children. Many Muslims in Kagio came as traders and as the town grew, so did the need for a place of worship and learning.

Over the years, the mosque has been used for daily prayers, Friday prayers and special celebrations like Eid. At the same time, Zeenat Academy has been teaching children both religious and normal school subjects. This has helped families raise their children with both education and strong values.

However, in recent years, the mosque and the school have faced challenges. Around 2025, a land dispute started with some people claiming ownership of the land. The case was taken to the Environment and Land Court in Kerugoya. The mosque leaders say the land was legally given to them many years ago and they continue to defend their rights.

Despite these challenges, the mosque and the school remain strong. They continue to bring people together, support families and promote peaceful living among different religions in Kagio.

Today, Kagio Jamia Mosque and Zeenat Academy stand as a symbol of faith, learning, and resilience and that shows how a small community can grow, stay united and protect what matters to them.
