Educational Background

Senator James Kamau Murango’s journey is rooted in a solid academic foundation. He began schooling at Kiandieri Primary School in 1985 and completed his KCPE in 1994. After high school, he pursued Plant Engineering at the Technical University of Mombasa laying the groundwork for his career in technical and infrastructural fields. His hunger for knowledge saw him advance internationally studying Material Handling and Advanced Equipment in Sweden and later Project Management and Planning in Miami, USA.



To complement his technical skills with financial expertise, Murango also earned a Master’s degree in Economics and Portfolio Management shaping him into a well-rounded leader with global exposure.


Political Background

Murango entered active politics in 2017 when he was elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Kerugoya Ward under the Jubilee Party. His leadership qualities were quickly recognized and he served as the Majority Leader of the Kirinyaga County Assembly. He sat in key committees including Budget and Appropriations, Agriculture, Finance and Public Works.



In 2022, he took a bold step onto the national stage and was elected as the Senator for Kirinyaga County under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Since then, he has pushed for progressive legislation most notably sponsoring the Rice Bill and the Agriculture and Food Authority (Amendment) Bill both aimed at supporting farmers and enhancing agricultural policy.


Entrepreneurial & Agribusiness Interests

Away from politics, Senator Murango is deeply involved in agribusiness. Inspired by his father’s farming legacy, he runs a successful farm in Nyamindi village growing macadamia, tea, mangoes and coffee alongside dairy farming. His passion for agriculture not only reinforces his legislative agenda but also supports the local economy and empowers rural livelihoods.

Kamau Murango represents a new generation of leaders that are educated, exposed and grounded in community service. Whether in the chambers of Senate or the fields of Nyamindi, he blends policy with practice embodying a leadership model that is both visionary and practical.
