Ndia Member of Parliament George Kariuki (GK) is facing serious allegations of nepotism and corruption, according to an exposé published by Nyakundi report on November 25, 2022.
The article claims that MP Kariuki used his political influence to appoint multiple family members to public positions. Among the reported appointments are:
- Ann Wacera Kariuki, his sister, who was nominated to the Kirinyaga County Assembly in 2017 and later to the Kiambu County Assembly, despite losing in her ward nominations.
- Grace Kamau, his aunt, allegedly nominated to the Kirinyaga County Assembly.
- Caroline Murage, his wife, who was reportedly nominated as Principal Secretary for Correctional Services but withdrew her nomination following public backlash.
The exposé further alleges that several family members are listed as parliamentary staff in his office and are receiving public salaries without performing any official duties.
In addition, GK is accused of demanding a 20% upfront kickback from contractors during his tenure, raising further concerns about abuse of office.
