Kirinyaga County Commissioner Shufaa Omar Mwijuma has ordered a crackdown on strip clubs in Kagio and Kerugoya citing concerns over indecency and what she described as moral decay.
Mwijuma said the operation will begin in Kagio Town on Thursday before moving to Kerugoya Town as the government steps up efforts to address activities it considers a threat to the community.
The directive comes as Kirinyaga intensifies a wider multi-agency crackdown on illicit brew and counterfeit alcohol across the county. Security agencies, county administrators and regulatory bodies have been brought together in the operation targeting those involved in the illegal alcohol trade.
The Commissioner has repeatedly raised concerns about alcohol and drug abuse particularly among young people and has called for families, religious leaders and other community stakeholders to play a greater role in tackling the problem.
Her latest directive puts strip clubs in Kagio and Kerugoya under increased scrutiny with authorities expected to inspect establishments and take action where they find violations of the law or licensing requirements.
The operation is expected to start in Kagio on Thursday, with Kerugoya next in line.
