Over four months after the July 7th unrest that shook Kenya, justice still remains elusive for County Supermarket, one of the hardest-hit businesses during the protest-turned-chaotic day. Despite the supermarket’s effort to identify the culprits, including releasing CCTV images of the suspected looters, no meaningful arrests or prosecutions have been made.
County Supermarket, a well-known retail hub in Kagio, Kagumo and Murang'a, suffered extensive losses on that day as opportunistic looters broke in and carted away goods in broad daylight. The management was quick to act by providing local authorities with footage and images of several individuals allegedly involved in the incident. But even with clear visual evidence, no one has been held accountable.

The July 7th demonstration meant to be a peaceful protest in solidarity with the national "7/7 Movement," spiraled out of control in Kagio, Kagumo and Murang'a leading to multiple businesses being looted and vandalized. While several youth groups and boda boda associations later distanced themselves from the violence, the scars remain especially for County Supermarket which is still recovering from the financial blow.
County Supermarket has since reopened, thanks to internal resilience, but the call for justice remains strong. As Kagio continues to grow into a vibrant commercial hub, many agree: accountability must match ambition. And for County Supermarket, justice delayed is justice denied.
